Burning Fields

It's the season of changing crops. All the rapeseed that was in such spectacular bloom in March has been harvested for its seeds and farmers are putting in new crops: rice, vegetables, and tobacco. In the process, they cut and burn a lot of the old vegetation (i.e. the straw-like stalks). This has been happening for the last couple of weeks. Some days there are just a few farmers burning their fields, but some days it seems like it's everyone. I've never seen so many workers in the fields before.

The fires, as you can see, are sometimes quite pretty, especially when they dot the landscape for miles, not unlike the flowers that came before them. The smoke, not so much.
