Censorship in China

Another American fellow drew my attention to this interesting perspective on censorship in China. It is written by Peter Hessler, author of several books about China, including Rivertown, the story of the two years he spent in Sichuan Province with the Peace Corps in the 1990s. He discusses the system of censorship generally, challenging some assumptions typical of a western mindset, and also personally, explaining how his own books have been translated for the Mainland Chinese market, and describing his subsequent book tours. It's well worth a read.
